Ted Munro’s Encyclopaedia of Aberdeen
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Torry Heritage Group on producing Ted Munro’s Encyclopaedia of Aberdeen; understands that the encyclopaedia compiles approximately 90 years’ worth of clippings, documents and photographs collected by Ted Munro, affectionately known as the “History Mannie”, throughout his life; notes that Ted, who was awarded a Distinguished Service Medal while working aboard a minesweeper during the Second World War, was passionate about the local history of Aberdeen; believes that future generations will benefit immensely from his collection; understands that the encyclopaedia took the Heritage Group nearly two years to compile, with assistance from the Balmoral Group in binding the books; acknowledges that the first copies of the encyclopaedia were recently delivered to pupils of Lochside Academy and the Lord Provost, and commends the efforts of the Heritage Group and others in ensuring that Ted’s legacy will be preserved and accessible for anyone with a passion to learn more about local history.
