NHS Orkney and Girlguiding Orkney Win at Antibiotic Guardian Awards

That the Parliament congratulates NHS Orkney and Girlguiding Orkney on their challenge badge, which aims to raise awareness of antibiotic resistance, winning the Children and Family category at the Antibiotic Guardian Awards in Birmingham; acknowledges that the badge aims to improve young people’s understanding of antibiotic resistance, which is a major threat to people’s health and food security; understands that antibiotic resistance can potentially lead to longer hospital stays and increased mortality, and can be accelerated by overuse or the misuse of antibiotics; notes that the challenge badge engages young people to become antibiotic guardians, where they learn how to manage antibiotic resources sensibly while also having fun; notes that this innovative approach has been adopted by Girlguiding groups across the UK; congratulates Catriona Innes and Catherine Edwards on developing the idea, and wishes them the very best as they continue to raise awareness of this important campaign.
