Westquarter and Reddingmuirhead Cricket Club’s Try Something New Initiative
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Westquarter and Reddingmuirhead Cricket Club (WRCC), in partnership with Alzheimer Scotland, on its Try Something New initiative, which is being held at its Bailliefields Community Hub once per month, offering people with dementia, their families and carers the chance to try out a range of different activities; notes that the activities provided are all led by experienced coaches and include photography, soft-cricket, soft-archery, petanque, ballroom dancing and drumming; recognises that people going along to activities have been able to reconnect with old friends, with some friendships dating from their primary school years; acknowledges that the WRCC approached Alzheimer Scotland with a view to providing a community facility for older people to enjoy activities; considers the partnership between Alzheimer Scotland and WRCC as vital in helping people to continue to be engaged, while tackling social isolation of vulnerable people within communities; congratulates both organisations on their work within the community, and encourages more people living with dementia across the Falkirk district to sign up to Try Something New every month.
