That the Parliament welcomes the news that a new service for people in Scotland with mesothelioma has been launched by Macmillan Cancer Support, Mesothelioma UK and local NHS boards; notes that the service was launched on Action Mesothelioma Day on 5 July 2019; further notes that the service will provide patients with a dedicated mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialist, who will provide enhanced support locally for patients and carers; supports the Scottish Mesothelioma Network, which is comprised of a team of health care professionals from across Scotland who will collaborate to share best practice and provide high quality clinical care, information and support to all patients, wherever they live; believes that Scotland has some of the highest rates of the disease, which is caused by exposure to asbestos, in the world; notes that the service will mean that clinicians can share expertise, develop high quality care plans, and provide increased access to potentially life-changing clinical trials to patients across Scotland, and supports the service in its aim that it will improve outcomes and quality of life for patients.
