World Cup Success
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the United States women's football team on winning the FIFA Women's World Cup; recognises the great advert that it considers this tournament has been for women's sport, with viewing figures beyond all expectations; congratulates the US captain, Megan Rapinoe, on securing the Golden Boot and Golden Ball awards for top goalscorer and best player in the tournament, England's Lucy Bronze who earned the Silver Ball, the US’s Rose Lavelle who took the Bronze Ball and Alex Morgan who won the Silver Boot, Ellen White of England who won the Bronze Boot in third place, and hosts France on picking up the Fair Play award for the fewest bookings; notes that this is the fourth World Cup win by the US national team and the second for the coach, Jill Ellis; hopes that the success of this tournament and the Scotland national women's team will inspire many more women and girls to take up sports such as football, and wishes the Scotland team the best of luck in future tournaments.
