Stranraer Welcomes the World Skiff Championships
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the opening in Stranraer of the St Ayles World Skiff Championships on 9 July 2019 by The Princess Royal and the Cabinet Secretary for Culture and Tourism; understands that thousands of people, including from Canada, the United States, Tasmania and mainland Europe, have come to the town for a week of rowing competition, festivities, food and drink and camaraderie and to explore the south west; recognises what it believes will be the huge economic benefit of this to Stranraer and Wigtownshire through visitors filling up hotels, guest houses and B&Bs and spending money in shops, eateries and at tourist attractions; wishes all taking part In the championships well; thanks the organisers and volunteers who have made the event possible, and commends the area's residents on making all visitors feel welcome.
