Kris Procek, Scottish Parent of the Year

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Kris Procek on being named Scottish Parent of the Year at the recent Parent Network Scotland awards; understands that Kris, who lives in Bonnybridge with his wife Karen and two sons, Logan and Rory,and who requires the use of a wheelchair, received the award for his dedicated work in helping to secure more suitable toilets for disabled children and adults with complex needs; notes that he is an active campaigner for the Changing Places Consortium, which calls on better facilities for disabled people; acknowledges that changing rooms toilets include extra room for up to two carers and a wheelchair, a hoist and tracking system and an adult changing bench; recognises that Kris played a vital part in influencing Falkirk Council’s decision to allocate £100,000 of funds in 2018-19 to upgrade facilities at the Camelon Mariner Centre and Grangemouth Sports Complex to include such facilities; acknowledges the Scottish Government’s support for the campaign, which includes funding for a second mobile changing place called a Pamiloo and the proposal in its draft planning bill for new large venues such as schools, sports centres, hospitals or retail centres required to include a changing places toilet in their development in order to be granted planning permission; applauds Kris on winning this well-deserved award, and looks forward to changing places toileyd becoming commonplace in communities across Scotland and beyond.
