Alison Bunce, Scotland’s Caring Champion
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the founder of Compassionate Inverclyde, Alison Bunce, on being named Caring Champion at the 2019 Scotland’s Champions Awards on 22 June; understands that the event scours communities in search of unsung heroes; believes that Alison is an exemplary nurse; notes that she was honoured for her devotion to palliative care through her work with Compassionate Inverclyde, which offers "Back Home Boxes" for people who are discharged from hospital and live alone, so they can be provided with essentials like coffee, tea and biscuits as well as receiving a message or note written by children and young people from their communities; recognises that the groups also runs an initiative, No One Dies Alone initiative, so that people who are at the end of their life in hospital and have no family or friends to sit with them are comforted in their final moments; appreciates that these projects have benefitted numerous people in Inverclyde and hopes other areas will launch similar schemes, and thanks Alison and the volunteers for the care that they offer to patients at Inverclyde Royal Hospital.
