Newark Primary Pupils’ Tribute to Jayden Orr

Lodged by Stuart McMillan (Scottish National Party) Standard Motion 17 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament commends Newark Primary School’s P7 class on writing and recording a song in memory of their classmate, Jayden Orr, who died two years ago, aged 10, after collapsing while ice skating; appreciates that the class performed Jayden’s Rainbow, a song inspired by all their memories of their friend, to his mum, Kathleen, and family at a farewell school assembly; understands that the youngsters hope to help his memory live on through the song, which will also raise money for the charity set up in his name; recognises Kathleen’s fundraising efforts that have enabled her to distribute a defibrillator to every school in Inverclyde; notes that she has submitted a petition to the Parliament seeking to increase the number of public access defibrillators available in Scotland; thanks the staff at Newark Primary School and West College Scotland who helped the pupils create the song, and wishes the pupils well as they prepare to start secondary school after the summer.
