Epilepsy Scotland's 65th Anniversary
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Epilepsy Scotland, which is marking its 65th anniversary in November 2019; applauds the work of the charity with its efforts and considerable success in advocating change and increasing awareness of the condition, including its work in tackling inequalities and in advocating that public policy should recognise the diverse needs of people with epilepsy; understands that it is world's most common serious neurological condition, affecting 50 million people, including 55,000 in Scotland; acknowledges research suggesting that, while around 52% of people with epilepsy have seizure control, 70% could become seizure-free if they receive optimum care; notes the view that parliamentarians have a role to play in the realisation of improved healthcare, the provision of information and ending the stigmatisation relating to the condition, and wishes Epilepsy Scotland every success in its continued efforts to improve the quality of life of those who have epilepsy or who are otherwise affected by it.
