Awards Success for Queen Margaret University Staff and Students

That the Parliament notes that a number of staff, staff teams and students from Queen Margaret University (QMU) in Edinburgh have recently been shortlisted for and won awards recognising the high-quality of their research, teaching and learning; congratulates the QMU Nursing Team for winning the Student Experience Award at the Student Nursing Times Awards 2019, and for being shortlisted in four other categories; understands that the University’s partnership with Cyrenians, which provides nursing students with hands-on opportunities to learn about the charity’s range of health and wellbeing services, was also nominated for the Partnership of the Year Award; notes that the QMU nursing students, Stephanie Norton-Alexander and Karen Rennie, were nominated for Student Nurse of the Year (adult) and Learner of the Year (Post-registration) respectively; welcomes that the lecturer, Evelyn Weir, was named Educator of the Year, and that Joseph McIntyre was shortlisted for Inspirational Podiatrist of the Year at the Tomorrow’s Podiatry Awards; applauds the third year Public Relations, Marketing and Events Management student, Mel Fraser, for winning the Paragon Marketing Student Award for a digital marketing strategy she developed in response to a brief given to QMU’s marketing students; notes with pleasure that Dr Sara Wood of the QMU Speech and Hearing Division was named as one of the University UK’s The Nation’s Lifesavers, which is the top 100 individuals or groups based in universities whose work is saving lives and making a life-changing difference to health and wellbeing; appreciates that Dr Wood was singled out for transforming the lives of children experiencing long-term speech communication problems through the use of pioneering visual feedback technology; understands that the recognition came as part of Universities UK’s MadeAtUni campaign, which brings to life the impact of universities on everyday lives, and believes that these awards are just one expression of the burgeoning research, teaching and student success of Queen Margaret University.
