Scottish Brothers to Take Part in Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge
The motion
That the Parliament commends the hard work of the Scottish brothers, Ewan, Jamie and Lachlan Maclean, in their efforts to become the first three brothers, and youngest trio, to row across the Atlantic Ocean while competing in the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge; understands that the Atlantic rowing race, which was founded in 1997, is widely recognised as “the world’s toughest row”; further understands that more people have been into space or climbed Mount Everest than have rowed the 3,000 plus miles across the Atlantic; appreciates the brothers’ commitment to raising funds and awareness for Scotland’s national children’s charity, Children 1st, and the sustainable development charity, Feedback Madagascar, to support both charities’ vital work in helping the most vulnerable in society; understands that the brothers have set themselves a target of raising £250,000 for these charities, and recognises their dedication to pushing the limits of human endurance, determination and empathy in a manner which reflects the hearts, wills and minds of people in Scotland.
