Lewis Haig Crowned RYA Yachtmaster of the Year 2018
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Lewis Haig on being crowned RYA Yachtmaster of the Year 2018; understands that the 19-year-old, who is involved with the Inverkip-based charity, Ocean Youth Trust Scotland (OYTS), received the prestigious accolade for his demonstration of sailing skills during a 12-hour yachtmaster exam, where he was up against 3,000 candidates; recognises that Lewis was presented with the trophy by The Princess Royal, President of RYA; notes that Lewis first set sail on a school trip in 2014 with OYTS and continued his sail training, volunteering and eventually gaining a place on the cadet programme in 2017; believes that Lewis’s achievements demonstrate the positive impact organisations such as OYTS have on young people in Inverclyde, and wishes the charity and Lewis all the best for the future.
