Inverkip Primary School Holds its First Eco-day

That the Parliament commends Inverkip Primary School for holding its first school beach clean and eco-day, with staff, pupils, parents and members of the local community all getting involved; notes that, during the day, all the lights in the classrooms were off, as were the computers and whiteboards and, instead of using electronics, all the pupils took part in eco-tasks; appreciates that each class was timetabled to walk to Ardgowan Beach and spend some time helping with the clean-up before returning to the school; understands that pupils from P1 to P4 also joined up with the local gardening group, Blooming Inverkip, to plant sunflower seeds; recognises that the school was supported in their efforts by staff from RBS, Co-Op Funeralcare and the local community council, with The Chartroom at Kip Marina providing refreshments, lunches and toilet access for volunteers; believes that events such as this help educate children and their families about how to "do their bit" for the environment, and that being involved in a beach clean or litter pick highlights the harmful impact of littering on wildlife and the planet; thanks all the staff at the school and local volunteers for organising the eco-day, and hopes other schools in Inverclyde and across Scotland host their own.
