UHI Introduces Graduation Bursary for Care Experienced Students
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) on its introduction of a bursary to support care experienced students to participate in graduation ceremonies; understands that the bursary, available from summer 2019, will provide assistance for costs such as gown hire, photography, travel and accommodation; notes that research shows that care experienced students often experience financial difficulties during their studies as they are unable to rely on additional support from family, and that the University’s new initiative aims to address the barriers care experienced students may face in celebrating their success with their peers; welcomes the news that UHI is one of the first universities in Scotland to introduce a graduation bursary for care experienced students, and hopes that this initiative will have a positive impact on graduates' experiences.
