Official Opening of The Event Complex Aberdeen

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the official opening on 8 August 2019 of The Event Complex Aberdeen (TECA), which is a £333 million centre for conferences, exhibitions and music concerts that was funded by Aberdeen City Council and opened by the council's co-leaders; understands that the 15,000-capacity main arena is the largest standing room indoor concert venue in the UK; notes that it is being sponsored by the Press & Journal and will be known as P&J Live for upcoming concerts by Michael Bublé, Alice Cooper, Lewis Capaldi, Rod Stewart and Elton John, while the centre’s first official event, the Offshore Europe conference, will take place on 3 September; understands that the complex also features two hotels, with restaurants, bars and leisure facilities, and is expected to attract an additional 4.5 million visitors and £113 million of visitor spend to the region, as well as creating 350 new jobs over the next 10 years; acknowledges the importance of this new state-of-the-art complex for Aberdeen and the north east, and commends all involved in the development of TECA.
