Recognising Shetland Fishing's support for MRI Scanner Appeal
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the support of Shetland fishermen towards Shetland's MRI Scanner Appeal, which aims to fund MRI equipment for the islands' hospital; recognises that the operators of the Adenia, Antarctic II, Antares, Charisma, Research, Serene and Zephyr vessels have together contributed £100,000 to the fund, bringing it much closer to its £1.65 million goal; understands that over 600 patients from Shetland must travel to the UK mainland every year for MRI scans, causing not only stress and inconvenience for patients but also creating potential delays to diagnosis and monitoring of conditions; acknowledges the vital support given by people from across Shetland and further afield to the campaign, which is being run by the NHS Shetland Endowment Fund, and extends its thanks to those who have donated for their support for the health and wellbeing of the islands’ community.
