Consortium for Plastics And Sustainability at Heriot-Watt University

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the announcement of the first meeting of the COnsortiuM for Plastics And SuStainability, COMPASS, at Heriot-Watt University’s Edinburgh Campus on 4 September 2019; notes that COMPASS comprises academics from across Heriot-Watt’s global campus network who are working closely with external partners to understand both the benefits and problems associated with plastic waste; understands that the purpose of this meeting is to develop a white paper that presents an evidence-based strategy for future action on plastic recovery, re-use, re-purposing, recycling, product re-design, and incineration and energy recovery; acknowledges that COMPASS is taking a holistic and multidisciplinary approach to establish a fully circular economy for plastics, and wishes the group future success in its efforts to provide an informed contribution to industry, policy makers, and the general public, to address the globally important issue of plastic re-use and recycling.
