The motion

That the Parliament notes the recent peaceful rally organised by the Scottish Human Rights Forum, which took place on 15 August 2015 in George Square, Glasgow; further notes that the rally was an opportunity for people across Glasgow and Scotland to show solidarity with the people of Kashmir and highlight the ongoing and escalating conflict in the region as a result of the Indian Government revoking the special autonomous status for Kashmir; understands that this led to police opening fire and using tear gas to disperse thousands of people who took to the streets to protest, as well as what it considers an unprecedented lockdown that saw telecommunications cut and schools closed; condemns this move as an attack on the human rights of the people of Kashmir, including the right of self-determination as enshrined in UN Security Council resolutions; believes that the rights of the people of Kashmir and international human rights must be upheld; strongly condemns what it sees as oppressive and violent suppression of such freedom, and supports the cessation of hostilities, the restoration of human rights and the right of self-determination of the Kashmiri people.
