Leah Black, WHALE Arts Chief Executive, Nominated as Scottish Women’s Awards Finalist

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Leah Black, Chief Executive of WHALE Arts, on being nominated as a finalist in the Scottish Women’s Awards for her contribution to arts and culture; notes that Leah was appointed chief executive in April 2018; recognises that, in her role, Leah is responsible for WHALE Arts’ strategic and operational development, which includes an arts workshop, performance space, community kitchen, crèche and board room that local community groups and organisations use, as well as overseeing all aspects of the business; appreciates the contribution and improvement that Leah and WHALE Arts have made to the Wester Hailes community; notes that the Scottish Women’s Awards 2019, which will be held in Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel on 28 August 2019, recognise and celebrate the achievements of talented women across various sectors and industries in Scotland, including business, sport, technology, management and charity; understands that the finalists have been shortlisted based on public nominations; believes Leah to be a very worthy nomination, and wishes her all the best for the awards ceremony.
