Congratulations to the Campaign for Borders Rail on 20 Years
The motion
That the Parliament recognises that Campaign for Borders Rail is set to hold its 20th anniversary AGM on 8 October 2019; notes that this campaign group and its volunteers were instrumental in securing the reopening of the Borders Railway from Edinburgh to Tweedbank in 2015, representing the UK's longest newly constructed domestic railway for over 100 years, with the original Waverley Route it follows having been closed as part of the Beeching cuts in 1969; understands that the group continues to campaign for the full reopening of the Waverley Route, which would see the line at Tweedbank extend to join the mainline at Carlisle; believes that the current Borders Railway passenger numbers being well above original expectations and increasing year on year shows the demand for an extended railway in the Borders; congratulates all volunteers and campaigners who have been involved over the last 20 years, and wishes Campaign for Borders Rail all the best for its campaign in the coming years.
