Lodged by Mark McDonald Standard Motion 8 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament recognises the findings of a survey of consultants in anaesthesia and paediatric intensive care medicine in the UK and Ireland published in the journal, Anaesthesia, on 2 September 2019; acknowledges the extent and impact of fatigue among senior clinicians evidenced by the survey; notes that only a third (34%) of consultants surveyed said they have access to a private rest facility when on call; is concerned that 91% of consultant doctors who responded experience work-related fatigue; is further concerned that as many as 50% reported that this had a moderate or severe impact on their health, wellbeing, work and home life, and supports the national Fight Fatigue campaign to raise awareness of the impact of fatigue and shift work on the NHS workforce.
