Pass Rates in Maths More Than Double at Port Glasgow High School
The motion
That the Parliament commends Port Glasgow High School on its work to improve pass rates in maths, with half of all fourth year pupils sitting National 5 Maths gaining an A grade, compared with only 4% two years ago; notes that the Higher Maths pass rate has risen from 50% to 77%, with the number of pupils getting the top grade doubling in the last two years; recognises that Port Glasgow High School has embraced technology and a Saturday school scheme to support pupils in learning maths, which has paid dividends in terms of pass rates; believes that the school’s £84,000 Pupil Equity Funding allocation for 2018-19 has enabled staff to trial new methods of teaching, and that Port Glasgow’s latest allocation of £87,600 for 2019-20 will support initiatives such as this for pupils in the future; applauds the teaching staff at the school, especially those in the maths department, for their hard work in developing new ways of teaching maths to help pupils maximise their potential, and wishes the school, its staff and pupils all the best for the future.
