Threat of No-deal Brexit to General Practice
The motion
That the Parliament understands that, in November 2018, the governing council of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) passed a motion that opposed Brexit; understands that a no-deal Brexit would jeopardise the continued delivery of high-quality patient care and the recruitment and retention of vital staff who are EU nationals; believes that a no-deal also endangers the UK’s access to medicines, devices and radioisotopes and risks the creation of further administrative burden for prescribers; considers that, as the first point of contact for the vast majority of patients, general practice is at the heart of the health service; notes RCGP Scotland’s prediction that there will be a shortfall of 856 whole-time equivalent GPs in Scotland by 2021, and believes that a no-deal Brexit would worsen these workforce pressures and poses a considerable threat to general practice and the NHS as a whole.
