Cigarette Pollution

The motion

That the Parliament believes that more must be done to counter what it sees as the vast amount of polluting waste caused by cigarettes; understands that their filters are made of a plastic that takes years to decompose, releases harmful toxins into the environment and can be swallowed by marine life that mistake them for food; recognises that cigarette butts are one of the most commonly found forms of single-use plastic that wash up on shores; considers that, unlike many other common single-use plastics, there has been minimal incentives to reduce their consumption, and believes that action should be taken to find an alternative to these filters to reduce their harmful impact on the environment.
