World First Aid Day

That the Parliament welcomes World First Aid Day on 14 September 2019; notes the results of a study commissioned by the British Red Cross, which highlight that 84% of children in Scotland believe that learning how to save a life is one of the most important lessons to learn at school; understands that nine out of ten pupils said that knowing first aid skills would make them feel more confident to help in an emergency; considers that first aid education increases the ability to assist in an emergency, facilitates health prevention, can improve health literacy, promotes self-care and an understanding of risks and supports the development of resilience; believes that all young people in Scotland should be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to save a life by the teaching of first aid education in all schools once a year, every year, and encourages the Scottish Government to advance the British Red Cross recommendation to include first aid education as a nationally set statutory requirement for all schools in Scotland.
