COP26 Climate Summit
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow on being confirmed as the host city for the UN COP26 climate summit in 2020; believes that the summit must secure an increased level of ambition from the global community in response to the latest reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which is clear in stating that the planet has just a decade left to act to avoid climate breakdown; considers that the action required must take the form of a global Green New Deal to drive rapid decarbonisation and create jobs and a positive future in the low-carbon economy, and calls on the Scottish and UK governments and Glasgow City Council to embolden their efforts to deliver a Green New Deal for Scotland so that the country can demonstrate the strongest possible action in response to the climate emergency to members of the international community when they assemble in Glasgow.
