National Eye Health Week 2019

The motion

That the Parliament acknowledges National Eye Health Week, which runs from 23 to 29 September 2019 with the aim of promoting the importance of good eye health and taking advantage of eye health checks, which have been free to book every two years in Scotland since 2006; commends RNIB Scotland on its Scotland-wide campaign, Eye Health Matters, which raises awareness of free eye health checks through cardboard coasters depicting Dundee's V&A, Edinburgh Castle, Buchanan Street in Glasgow and the Callanish Standing Stones in the Western Isles, obscured by glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy respectively; notes that eye health checks can identify many health conditions early, including hypertension and heart disease, as well as eye conditions such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, before they affect vision; recognises the work of optometrists spotting these conditions and looking after people's eye health, and encourages people across Scotland to book their free eye health check at their opticians.
