Diageo Industrial Action
The motion
That the Parliament understands that employees of Diageo will begin industrial action on 17 September 2019; further understands that employees who are members of GMB Scotland will be taking action at all of the company’s distillery and bottling sites in Scotland, while Unite the Union members will take action at Shieldhall in Glasgow and Leven in Fife in a dispute over pay; considers that Diageo is a large and important employer that plays a significant role in Scotland’s economy, particularly in many rural and remote communities, has a strong reputation nationally and internationally and is one of the world’s wealthiest companies, making a reported £4.2 billion pre-tax profit and its Chief Executive receiving a 30% pay increase; believes that Diageo has profited significantly as a result of the efforts of its Scottish employees and from its Scottish operations, and calls on Diageo to get back around the table with the GMB and Unite unions and find a fair resolution that reflects the company’s success, which it considers is in no small part down to the hard work of whisky workers all over Scotland.
