Concern Over Tesco Closure in Dundee

Lodged by Shona Robison Standard Motion 16 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament expresses deep concern at the sudden announcement of the closure of Tesco’s Metro Store in Dundee city centre and the subsequent loss of 78 jobs; expresses further concern at what it considers the curious situation whereby the decision to close this prime city centre shop was not taken by Tesco but by its landlord, Sports Direct, which it believes terminated the lease and refused to grant a short-term extension to help Tesco support affected staff; cautiously welcomes confirmation that Tesco is working with the USDAW union and staff in finding as many suitable positions in other Tesco locations in the city and other divisions of the company as possible, and urges the Scottish Government to offer what support it can to either resolve the situation or support affected staff.
