Bi Visibility Day

Lodged by Alex Cole-Hamilton (Scottish Liberal Democrats) Standard Motion 13 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament recognises that 23 September 2019 mark Bi Visibility Day, which is also known as both Celebrate Bisexuality Day and Bisexual Pride Day; understands that this awareness day, which has been celebrated around the world since 1999, promotes awareness and understanding of bisexuality, provides a platform for bisexual people and their supporters and aims to bring attention to the social, economic and cultural challenges that they can face; notes that the first UK-wide report focusing on the experiences of bisexual people, which was published in May 2015 by the Equality Network, found that 48% of respondents had received biphobic comments and that 61% had experienced multiple discrimination; condemns such comments and discrimination, and hopes that Bi Visibility Day continues to be successful in promoting awareness, understanding, equality and diversity.
