Local Authorities and Challenge Poverty Week

The motion

That the Parliament notes that local authorities across Scotland are taking part in Challenge Poverty Week, which begins on 7 October 2019; understands that, among others, local authorities in North Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, Glasgow, Falkirk and East Renfrewshire are hosting events to mark the week; believes that local authorities are playing a key role in reducing poverty through provision of essential services and innovative anti-poverty initiatives; understands that the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities believes that councils could achieve a step change in the impact of their anti-poverty work with additional financial resources, and calls on the Scottish Government to ensure that local authorities are adequately funded to ensure that poverty continues to be tackled at a local level across Scotland.
