The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the newly-formed Peebles Salmon Anglers Club on taking over the lease of the Crown Water beat in Peebles; understands that the previous owners of the beat were not renewing the lease, which meant that local salmon anglers may have lost their rights to fish on the stretch; notes that the Peebles Salmon Anglers Club was founded in order to buy the lease of the beat and that it recently made a successful application to Crown Estate Scotland to take it over for five years; recognises the cultural importance of salmon fishing on the Tweed, which it believes has greater salmon stocks than any other river and can make a strong claim to be the birthplace of salmon fly fishing; appreciates the conservation value of salmon fishing as a means of monitoring the numbers and health of wild salmon stocks; commends the members of the Peebles Salmon Anglers Club on securing the lease, and wishes them all the best for the future.
