Securing the Future for Stoneywood Mill
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates all those involved in completing the management buy-out of Stoneywood Mill in Aberdeen, securing the future of hundreds of jobs in making high-quality paper for customers across Britain and Europe; particularly recognises the commitment of the workforce and their trade union, Unite, and the leadership of general manager Angus MacSween, which were vital to this successful outcome; acknowledges the role of Scottish Enterprise, the Mill’s customers and suppliers and the local community in working with the buy-out team and administrators to seal the deal; recognises the further potential markets for fine papers in Scotland, including the whisky, food and creative industries; believes that workers and management can now lay plans with confidence for marking 250 years of paper production on the banks of the River Don in 2020, and looks forward to celebrating their future success.
