National Braille Week 2019

That the Parliament welcomes National Braille Week, from 7 to 13 October 2019, which aims to raise awareness of the importance of braille and other alternative formats that open up the written word to people with vision impairment; recognises the commitment of Royal Blind to promoting the use of braille through the work of the Scottish Braille Press, the Royal Blind School and co-ordinating National Braille Week; welcomes the commitment by Social Security Scotland to provide information on new devolved benefits in a range of accessible formats, including braille; notes the ratification of the Marrakesh Treaty, which it believes will allow for copyright exceptions to facilitate the creation of accessible versions of books and other copyrighted works for people with vision impairment, and recognises the importance of promoting the use of braille for the future and the need to ensure that pupils with vision impairment can access the specialist support they need to learn braille.
