National Befriending Week
The motion
The Parliament recognises that 1 to 7 November 2019 marks National Befriending Week; congratulates Scotland's befriending services and their more than 11,000 volunteers, and supports what it sees as their valuable work; believes that volunteer befrienders help to tackle social isolation and loneliness by providing essential support to over 20,000 vulnerable people in communities across the country; appreciates the impact of the role of befriending in improving the health and wellbeing of befriendees and their volunteers, including those supported by organisations in the Central Scotland parliamentary region, such as Covey Befriending and the Lightburn Elderly Association Project, and commends the work of Befriending Networks in providing crucial infrastructure support to befriending services across Scotland.
