Sir Charles Lyell’s Notebook Collection to Stay in Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that the notebooks of the Angus-born geologist, Sir Charles Lyell, will be displayed in Edinburgh; understands that donations totalling close to £1 million, in conjunction with a grant from the National Heritage Memorial Fund and contributions from the University of Edinburgh, have ensured that the books will stay in Scotland; notes that Sir Charles was born in 1797 and has significantly influenced many generations, and is credited with providing the framework that helped Darwin develop his evolutionary theories; congratulates everyone involved on their work in this outcome, and looks forward to welcoming the public to the exhibit.
