Progressive Drugs Policy in Wales
The motion
That the Parliament notes what it considers the progressive policies adopted by the North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner, Arfon Jones, which it understands will see drug users who are searched and arrested offered a year-long narcotics education and rehabilitation scheme instead of facing a criminal conviction; believes that there is no legislative barrier to the Scottish Government adopting a similar approach; calls on the Minister for Public Health, Sport and Wellbeing to introduce a similar approach in Scotland as a matter of urgency, and considers that such a policy would help reduce drugs deaths in Lothian and across Scotland.
