Food Bank Use in West Lothian

Lodged by Neil Findlay Standard Motion 4 supporters

The motion

That the Parliament notes with alarm the increase in demand at local foodbanks in West Lothian, which it considers is due to the UK Government's universal credit roll out; understands that West Lothian Foodbank had to distribute 2,925 emergency food packs in order to feed 5,885 people, 2,118 of whom were children, and is a 41% increase on the preceding year; considers that these are shocking statistics for a modern society, and calls on the Scottish Government to include a “right to food” in its forthcoming Good Food Nation Bill.
