Developmental Language Disorder Awareness Day
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes Developmental Language Disorder Awareness Day on 18 October 2019; understands that Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is a condition where children have problems understanding and/or using spoken language, which affects one in 14 children; notes that DLD can interfere with a child's ability to communicate effectively with other people; recognises the aim of the day is to support those affected and raise awareness and funds to support children and young people with this hidden but common disability; welcomes the work of third sector organisations such as RADLD (Raise Awareness of Developmental Language Disorder), and believes that talking about the need for parents, carers, teachers and other professionals to be supported and equipped with the skills will enable a greater understanding of the different manifestations of DLD.
