Scotland's Bid to Host the Bingham Cup
The motion
That the Parliament celebrates the launch of the bid to bring the 2022 Bingham Cup, which is the world's biggest LGBT-inclusive rugby tournament, to Scotland; expresses its firm support and backing to the organisers of this; applauds Caledonian Thebans RFC on championing it and praises the club on its continued leading role in inclusive sport; congratulates Scottish Rugby for giving the bid significant support and commends its dedication to working with the Thebans, and other inclusive teams, to bring the event to Scotland; appreciates the work of the bid committee; anticipates that a successful bid will attract thousands of players and supporters from around the world to Edinburgh for the prestigious competition, bringing with them a cultural, social and financial contribution to the capital and the country as a whole; greatly appreciates the support shown by the Lord Provost and the members of the City of Edinburgh Council for the bid and appreciates the role that the Council will have should the bid succeed; believes that bringing the Bingham Cup to Scotland would embolden the country's reputation as a welcoming, inclusive and accepting nation with a key role to play in involving more LGBT people in sport, and wishes the Thebans, and everyone involved with the bid, the best of success.
