Balerno Karate Competitor Comes Third in the World
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Jacob Smart, an S5 student at Balerno Community High School, on winning the bronze medal at the World Karate Federations Cadet, Junior & U21 World Championships 2019; notes that the championships are organised by the National Karate Sports Federation of Chile and the WKF World Karate Federation and took place on 23 to 27 October 2019 in Santiago De Chile; understands that the competition is one of the most important sporting events of the year, featuring the best exponents of world karate; recognises that 120 countries representing the five continents took part, with a total of 1,700 accredited athletes participating; further recognises that the event saw five days of competition and 10 days of related activities; applauds Jacob on winning a bronze medal in the Junior Kumite Male -61 kg category while representing Scotland, and wishes him all the very best for his future Karate career.
