National Galleries Scotland Ends Links with BP

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the decision made by National Galleries Scotland to sever its links with the petrochemical giant, BP; understands that the Scottish Government-funded arts body will no longer host the BP Portrait Award show under its current financial backer, due to this link being seen by many as incompatible with the responsibility of a major cultural institution to recognise the climate emergency; recognises that this follows the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Science Festival similarly dropping sponsorship by companies they consider to be heavily polluting; believes that this sends a clear message that such links are not socially acceptable; congratulates campaigners, including the group, BP Or Not BP, on this latest achievement, and encourages any remaining institution with links to what it considers heavily-polluting companies to take similar action.
