Orkney Success at Scottish Young Farmers' Regional Competitions
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Sandwick A junior debating team and the Orkney junior district quiz team on qualifying for the national finals of the Scottish Young Farmers National Junior Speechmaking and Quiz competitions following their success at the North Regional finals in Nairn; acknowledges that the debating team of Cody Chalmers, Joe Sinclair and Amy Neil won the speechmaking event, with their topic, "On opposite sides of the road", scoring 78.2 out of 100, and that the quiz team, which also featured Cody, along with Robbie Hewison and Campbell Ridland, was runner-up to Udny JAC from East Aberdeenshire; understands that Chloe Wood, who is also from Orkney, was named the "Best chairman outwith the winning team" during the speechmaking event; notes that the judges were impressed at the exceptionally high standard of all of the participants; congratulates everyone on their efforts; believes that these competitions do an excellent job in bringing together young people in rural areas and offering them valuable personal development opportunities and help to underline what it sees as the great benefits of the young farmers movement across Scotland, and sends its best wishes to all of the teams that have progressed to the national finals, which will take place in Edinburgh on 7 December 2019, including those representing the North Region.
