20 Years of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust
The motion
That the Parliament commends the work of the Coalfields Regeneration Trust (CRT), which is marking 20 years of helping mining communities recover from the devastating effects of pit closures; understands that these communities had been left with a legacy of poverty and deprivation, which was worse than non-coalfield areas; acknowledges the CRT's work to alleviate this through many community initiatives, including the Auchengeich Mining Disaster Memorial, which reminds people of the real price of coal, the Netherthird Community Garden, which offers jobs and training, and the football tournaments, the Coalfields Community Cup and the Coalfields Home Internationals, which Scotland has won three times since 2008; believes that the CRT has had a positive and necessary impact, and looks forward to its continued work in the years to come.
