Law Society of Scotland's Generous Donation to West Lothian Foodbank

Lodged by Neil Findlay Standard Motion 1 supporter

The motion

That the Parliament commends the Law Society of Scotland for donating over £7,000 to West Lothian Foodbank in 2019; notes that the Society's staff have worked tirelessly to raise this, including by taking part in the Kiltwalk and the Edinburgh half-marathon, holding bake sales and pub quizzes, and organising an appeal, which led to 167kg of food being donated; believes that these efforts have greatly assisted the food bank by enabling it to lease a van and refurbish its charity shop; considers however that the existence of food banks is a disgraceful indictment of the stark poverty and inequality that exists across Scotland, and thanks everyone at the Law Society of Scotland and West Lothian Foodbank on their efforts to ensure that nobody goes without food both at Christmas and throughout the year.
