Motion · S5M-20309 · 3 Jan 2020
End the Honours System
The motion
That the Parliament believes that the award of a knighthood to the Conservative MP, Ian Duncan Smith, demonstrates that the honours system is completely discredited; understands that Ian Duncan Smith was the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions who introduced universal credit and the benefits cap, extended the retirement age and reduced disability benefits, which it considers caused untold misery to individuals and families across the country; believes that the award is for services to the Conservative party, and calls for the immediate end of the honours system.
