The motion

That the Parliament recognises 2020 as the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, as designated by the World Health Assembly; understands there are over 60,000 nurses and midwives in Scotland; believes that they play a vital role in delivering a broad range of essential health services; is concerned at reports that they continue to face increasing workloads due to unfilled vacancies, as highlighted by the Royal College of Nursing in September 2019; agrees with the World Health Organization that all countries, including Scotland, must invest in nurses and midwives to ensure safe and high quality care, and expresses its gratitude to all the dedicated, compassionate and skilled nurses and midwives across Scotland who provide high-quality care.
