Solidarity with Mass Strike in India
The motion
That the Parliament expresses its solidarity with the workers who have been striking in India; understands that members of 10 trade unions commenced a two-day strike on 8 January 2020 against proposed policies by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which it believes could see huge job losses and workers’ rights eroded; notes that the Prime Minister's plans include the privatisation of state-run companies, including Air India and BPCL, and amalgamating 10 public sector banks into four, resulting in job losses; commends the workers taking a stand against what it sees as this assault on working people, and expresses it supports for them in their struggle.
