Elaine Grieve Appointed as Lord Lieutenant for Orkney

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Elaine Grieve on being appointed as the 21st Lord Lieutenant for Orkney; understands that Elaine will become the first woman to take on the coveted role and will succeed Bill Spence, having previously served as his Vice Lord Lieutenant, following his retirement; recognises that Elaine currently makes a significant contribution to communities across Orkney through her dedicated voluntary service to a number of local organisations, including as Chairwoman of the Orkney Folk Festival, Director of the Pier Arts Centre, Director of Orkney Housing Association and Vice-Chairwoman of Voluntary Action Orkney; acknowledges that Elaine has also worked for Orkney Islands Council for 34 years, where she served as Assistant Director of Education and Assistant Chief Executive and Director of Corporate Services; thanks Elaine for her exceptional work in these and other areas; commends her on this well-deserved appointment, and looks forward to Elaine carrying out her duties as Orkney’s Lord Lieutenant with her customary energy, enthusiasm and good humour over the years ahead.
